How long does luxury vinyl flooring last?
Superior quality vinyl plank and luxury vinyl tile flooring lasts 30 years or more with proper care. These brands are characterized by a thick wear layer, a waterproof core, and a versatile design that accommodates three installation methods.
A great selection of luxury vinyl flooring is found at Carpet Smart in Wilmington, NC.
Wear layer
The wear layer protects the wood or tile image layer from scratches and stains, so, as you might expect, it's best to choose LVP or LVT flooring with a thick surface layer.
Your luxury vinyl floor will have a long lifespan if it is 'topped' by a 20-mil wear layer. Some manufacturers place an additional coating over the wear layer to ensure durability.
Core layer
The core layer is found under the image layer, and the backing layer protects it beneath it. Vinyl plank and tile flooring are waterproof if it has a wood plastic composite (WPC) or a stone plastic composite (SPC) core. While WPC flooring, which includes a foaming agent to add comfort underfoot, is durable, SPC flooring is virtually indestructible.
Installation
Glue-down, floating floor, and loose-lay luxury vinyl plank brands satisfy your flooring needs. Loose lay planks and tiles butt together to form a semi-permanent floor that can be reused in a new location if desired.
With floating floor designs, planks and tiles click and lock together and, thus, need no attachment to the subfloor or existing floor below it.
