Luxury vinyl plank and tile: the difference?

Luxury vinyl plank and tile: the difference?

Both vinyl plank (LVP) and luxury vinyl tile (LVT) are just two forms of the same flooring: luxury vinyl (which is sometimes just referred to just as LVF). So while they are different in appearance, both have the same capabilities.

All about luxury vinyl

With images inspired by nature, LVF offers photos of wood, stone, and tile with micro beveling and embossing to add depth, dimension, and textured looks. LVF follows all the trends so that you can get your choice from hundreds of hardwood species or stone looks such as marble, slate, granite, and more. Ceramic tile mimics come in colorful geometric, checkerboard, chevron, encaustic, or herringbone patterns.

Don't feel that you're tied to using a form only for one look; although planks are mainly associated with hardwood, some use that form also for stone or tile. Likewise, the tiled-sized pieces, associated with stone and ceramic tile looks, are used at times for wood.

Waterproof durability

Whether LVP or LVT, you'll have a multi-layered, semi-rigid, 100% waterproof surface that is five times thicker than the original version. At the top of each is a robust, transparent, strong melamine wear layer to protect the floor from scratches, scuffs, and wear. In addition, it keeps spills at the top waiting to be wiped off.

On top of that is a clear urethane finish to add extra shine and durability, and all LVF is composed of waterproof materials. That means it can be submerged or spilled on; wipe it off, and there'll be no damage.

Low maintenance, LVF needs a regular (daily, if possible) sweeping and periodic mopping to keep it looking great. Avoid waxy, shine-promoting cleaners as they can damage the finish and dull the floor. The product also has an uncomplicated installation, especially when it's a floating floor where pieces click, mat, and then hover over the subfloor without nails or glue.
